Whether you have recently purchased your touch up paint from Bumpers That Deliver or you are trying to gather information before you purchase, we are here to guide you to ensure the best results. When purchasing our touch up paint, you will receive 1 full ounce of touch up paint inside of a bottle that holds over 2 ounces of paint. The extra room in this bottle is to ensure that proper mixing can take place. Shake the bottle of touch up paint vigorously for 3 full minutes. Make sure that no metallic residue has settled to the bottom of the bottle. We will not dive into how to identify the levels of scratches and what steps to take to make it look as good as new again.
Clear Coat Scratches:
Clear coat is the glossy, protective layer on top of your car's paint. Its job is to protect the paint. Clear coat scratches can be found by rubbing your fingernail across them. If no metal is visible, then it's just a clear coat scratch.
1. Clean the area.
2. Paint it. Use a toothpick and try to only get the paint on scratch and try to avoid other areas.
3. Let it dry. 2-4 hours for best results.
4. Sand it. (optional) If you do not like the look or feel of a lump of paint you can go ahead and use 2000 grit sandpaper and sand it down very gently.
5. Polish it. If you do step 4, you can then polish it with car polish. That can be applied with a microfiber cloth or with a buffing sponge attached to your drill.
Paint Scratches:
These extend down into the enamel color layer of your car's finish. You can spot these because they appear white or discolored. This scratch will still not expose metal or go into the plastic.
1. Clean the area.
2. Paint it. Apply the touch-up paint and allow it to dry (2-4 hours for best results)
3. Sand it. Use 2000-grit sandpaper to lightly sand the dry paint.
4. Buff it. Use a rubbing compound. Apply it with a microfiber cloth, and use circular motions to buff until you can’t see the scratch any longer or a buffing tool.
5. Polish it. Polish the area with car polish. We do suggest a polish sponge that you can attach to your drill to get the best results.
Deep Scratches (primer scratches):
Deep scratches go down to the primer layer and often into the bare metal of your car or the plastic.
1. Clean it.
2. Sand it. Use 1000 grit sandpaper to remove any jagged edges. Then you can use 2000 grit to sand the surface until it's smooth.
3. Paint it. Apply our touch-up paint in light layers.
4. Let it dry. 2-4 hours for the best results.
5. Buff it. Use a rubbing compound with a buffing tool or you can use a microfiber cloth and buff it in circular motions.
6. Polish it. Apply car polish with the same tool (clean between uses) or your microfiber towel.
This is a reminder that this touch up paint is NOT intended for big unpainted areas and NOT intended to be used in a paint gun. This paint is actually a single stage paint and already has the clear coat resin mixed into the formula. Which is why we suggest not to thin it out, to avoid messing up the formula. You will not need to apply an additional clear coat to the application unless you want to. We ALWAYS suggest testing the color in an inconspicuous area on the vehicle to ensure that it will be a proper match.
